]]>On the site’s Planning page - http://www.myjamfactory.com/planning - is a letter sent by the JFRA to the Planning Committee and Councillors.
The facts are:
- The Developer breached the original planning consent, and failed to comply with legally binding conditions and that Southwark Council failed to take enforcement action.
- Consistent with this disregard for planning laws and policy the applicant seeks (i) to maintain what they have built in breach of existing planning conditions and policy guidelines with an application for retention and (ii) to obtain permission for developments which would also breach those guidelines to the detriment of Jam Factory and Meakin estate residents.
This is not NIMBYism but respect of residents and official policy and procedure. It is important, if you are concerned about the impact of any future development, that you make your views known, whatever they may be.
The Planning Officer’s report, whilst recommending approval, is clearly marginal.
The local Ward Councillors are opposed to the scheme, as are both Haddon Hall and The Meakin Estate residents.

Despite the forbidding omens the turnout was tremendous and rewarded with pleasant weather, until rain stopped play in the early evening. The music by European Steel Pan Champion Samuel Du Bois provided music par excellence. Chefs du partie, Jilan and Rob served up Sarah’s and Austin culinary delights. The raffle was impressive with donations from local businesses and residents. The event was a resounding success and we aim to build on this for next year.

]]>The JFRA are introducing a residents’ forum. We invite your opinion on key issues currently affecting the Jam Factory and how you would like them to be resolved.
How does it work?
We’ll introduce a number of subjects, giving the background and highlighting the current issues which need to be resolved. The forum is a chance for an open debate on what can be done and a formal vote on the best course of action, which we’ll then pursue with Stonedale, the managing agent. We encourage as many people as possible to attend in order to ensure all viewpoints are considered.
Why have a forum?
Some issues we’d like to resolve are divisive. There’s no simple answer so it’s important we hear residents’ opinions and ensure the action we take as a committee satisfies the majority.
What will be discussed?
Three key issues will be up for discussion at the first forum:
At present the car park cannot be pursued as a viable option for motorcycle storage. Where should residents’ motorcycles and scooters be stored? If they are kept on site what policies should be put in place to ensure they have the minimum detrimental impact on the development?
With the growing number of children now living in the Jam Factory and pressure on amenity space, there is need for a clear policy on vehicular access. Should vehicles be banned from the site altogether, or be restricted to certain areas and certain times? Should there be a policy on the number and nature of vehicles on site at any time?
Although the oil drums were never meant to be a permanent feature, they divide opinion on whether they should stay or go. If they stay, the community should decide how they are planted and distributed. If they go, how should they be replaced? What would residents like to see in the way of planting and landscaping?
When is it happening?
The forum will take place at a local venue between 8 and 10pm during September, on a night chosen by residents. Nominated dates are Monday 17th September, Tuesday 18th September, Wednesday 19th September or Thursday 20th September. If the forum proves successful, we intend to hold more events in the future.
All preferred dates to be received in the JFRA Mailbox, Porters Lodge, by 6pm Sunday the 2nd September. The final date and venue of the forum will be displayed on the notice boards around the site from Monday 3rd September.
